The Future of Industrial Relations Reform

Tuesday, 30 November, 2004 - 21:00

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold the Future of Industrial Relations Reform on Wednesday December 8 at CCI’s Function Centre in East Perth.

The workshop follows on from the recent historical win for the Howard Government, who won a majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate, allowing the amount of change to Australia’s workplace relations systems to be limited only by the Government’s appetite for reform.

The consequences for employers in WA will be significant regardless of whether the Government chooses a bold reform or incremental changes over a longer period of time.

The workshop will provide attendees with an insight into what these changes will mean for Western Australian business.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry executive director policy and advice Bruce Williams will address attendees outlining the political mandate the Howard Government holds for industrial relations change.

Mr Williams will review the history of legislative proposals back to 1996 and consider the likely direction of legislative change and the implications for WA.

Following this Chamber of Commerce and Industry employee relations adviser Peter Robertson will provide attendees with a timely update on critical developments such as the WAIRC’s Award Review, and the WAIRC’s Termination Change and Redundancy Case which may significantly increase severance payments and extend these to small businesses under Western Australian awards.

Registrations can be made with CCI for members $55 and non-members $82.50.
