Former Reserve Bank board member and Fortescue Metals Group deputy chairman Mark Barnaba has been appointed chair of data centre company AirTrunk.

Sydney-headquartered but focused on the Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ), AirTrunk describes itself as hyperscale data centre specialist that creates a platform for cloud, content, and large enterprise customers.

The technology company operates 11 data centres it developed across the two regions, including four across Sydney and Melbourne.

“I am thrilled to be joining the AirTrunk board and playing a pivotal role for the largest and most successful hyperscale data centre provider in the region,” Mr Barnaba said.

“I look forward to working with Robin [Khuda], the board and the senior leadership team to ensure AirTrunk continues to innovate and scale as it builds the critical digital infrastructure for some of the world’s largest technology companies.”

AirTrunk chief executive Robin Khuda said Mr Barnaba was joining the team during the expansion of its data centre platform throughout the APJ region.

“Mark’s extensive background in corporate governance and scaling fast growing businesses, coupled with his entrepreneurial acumen and deep understanding of capital markets, renders Mark an invaluable asset to AirTrunk as we enable APJ’s digital future that is being accelerated by cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning,” he said.

“Mark’s commitment to sustainability and scaling business responsibly will further advance the sustainable goals of our hyperscale data centre platform as we power the cloud in APJ.”

Mr Barnaba has replaced Macquarie Asset Management’s Ani Satchcroft, who will remain on the AirTrunk board.
