Talon claws new market

Talon Resources NL’s subsidiary Supersorb Minerals is set to launch a new range of high-performance products for the horticultural industry after signing an agreement to secure a supply of zeolite.

Zeolite can be combined with the absorbent minerals currently mined by Supersorb to develop a unique range of value-added applications.

Zeolites are hydrated alumina silicates that have an open pore structure, high surface area and high cation exchange capacity.

These properties give them many potential applications in areas such as horticulture, aquaculture and waste water treatment.

The supply agreement with Currumbin Sand & Gravel Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the Queensland-based Neumann Group, allows for Supersorb to extract and remove zeolite mineral from the Neumann lease at Springvale, some 100 kilometres west of Emerald in Queensland.

Talon CEO Tony Parry said the horticultural sector had always been a long-term growth target for Supersorb which mines, processes and packages granular absorbent products made from the naturally occurring minerals spongolite, diatomite and kaolinite.

“The horticultural industry offers exciting growth opportunities to build on our already strong position in the national market for pet litter and industrial spill absorption products,” Dr Parry said.

“The combination of zeolite with our existing absorbent minerals will enable us to develop a range of unique and innovative product offerings into the future.”
