Favourite destination?

Sabah, Malaysian Borneo – the people are beautiful and the experiences are unique, highlighted by the orang-utan sanctuary and island snorkelling.

Favourite city in the world?

Darwin – culturally diverse where you can taste foods from all parts of the world, and always has a socially vibrant feel. Predictable weather between dry and wet seasons with the wet delivering amazing volumes of rain and lightening shows; you need to see it to believe it. So many natural attractions at Darwin’s doorstep, including Litchfield and Kakadu national parks, and of course an element of danger at every water crossing.

Most recent holiday experience?

Bawaka Aboriginal cultural experience, East Arnhem Land. Two hours’ drive by 4WD out of Nhulunbuy to a remote location. Together with my two boys and a group from CBA we discovered the true meaning of the land and family through the Bawaka people. We fished with spears, learned some of the language, family structures, ceremonial dancing, and the spiritual meaning of the land – a truly unique experience that challenged us all – great to see our kids grow throughout the experience.

Favourite place in WA?

Kooljaman at Cape Leveque, two hours north of Broome. We backed the camper trailer on to the beach and with 10 steps to the water we had a terrific time with the kids, but also enjoyed nibbles and drinks at sunset every day. What a view.

Where have you always wanted to travel/holiday but haven’t managed to yet?

Hawaii. The beaches look so inviting and apparently the people love Australians; still on the wish list.

Favourite overseas accommodation?

The Halong Ginger Junk in Halong Bay, Vietnam – a 38-metre wooden boat that accommodates 16 people and is serviced by a crew of 16. Cruises among 3,000 limestone islands with spectacular food and scenery – recommend two nights with plenty of water activities along the way.

Favourite overseas hotel?

Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort, Kota Kinabalu – set in 160 hectares of tropical forests with beautiful rooms and ocean views. You wouldn’t find better service, and entertainment for you and the kids is non-stop – no need to leave the resort if you choose.
