Survey finds ratings boost for 96fm

IN THE NEWS EAST Perth-based 96fm has experienced a surge in listeners in the latest radio survey by Nielsen Media Research, jumping two spots to claim second place in overall rankings. About 8,000 more listeners tuned into the station during the survey period of June 22 to August 30, taking its average audience figure to 33,000, or 13.9 per cent of listeners, up 3.2 percentage points. The radio station’s breakfast show also experienced the same percentage increase in the breakfast slot, with an audience share of 11.9 per cent, or 43,000 listeners on average, with similar increases continuing across all time slots. However, in the weekday 7pm to midnight slot, Nova 93.7 experienced the biggest increase in listeners, up four percentage points to 10.2 per cent. Overall, Mix 94.5 retained the top spot with 16.9 per cent of radio listeners, dropping 0.2 percentage points, while its stable-mate 92.9 came in third with 11.5 per cent, down 2.3 points. Also in the top five were 6PR with 11.1 per cent, up 0.8 points, and ABC720 recorded 10.4 per cent, down 1.7 points. In the breakfast slot, The Bunch on Mix 94.5 reclaimed its number one position with 14.6 per cent, although its share of listeners dropped by 0.3 points, edging out ABC720’s Eoin Cameron at 14.4 per cent, down 2.6 points from the previous surveyed period. 6PR came in at number three, with a boost of 1.2 percentage points to 13 per cent. In the ‘grocery buyers category’, Mix 94.5 dominated once again with 17.3 per cent, while ABC720 came in second at 13.2 per cent and 6PR recorded an 11.6 per cent share
