Police have been asked by the University of Western Australia to investigate a data breach which may have compromised student grades, identification, images and more.

The global top 100 university emailed alumni tonight to inform them of the breach, which it said impacted current students.

It comes just days after the state’s Arts and Culture Trust said it had been the victim of a cybersecurity incident, with nine member organisations involved.

UWA said it had detected an unauthorised login to its student information management system.

“The data that has been accessed is student information held in Callista (the information management system) and not other current information held in other UWA systems, including our alumni database,” the email from UWA vice chancellor Amit Chakma said.

“It includes names, student IDs and images, date of birth and contact details as well as course details and unit grades of current and former students.

“No credit card details, tax file numbers, bank information or medical records are included in Callista.”
