Strong support for high rise

An online poll taken by WA Business News following last week’s feature on coastal development has uncovered a significant level of support for high-rise development.

Of those who responded to WA Business News’s first online poll, 81 per cent supported high rise in some form, with 19 per cent opposed to any high rise on the coast.

Of those in favour of coastal high rise, 17 per cent said height should be unlimited in all locations, with a further 27 per cent saying height should be unlimited in certain locations.

Thirty-nine per cent of respondents to the poll said high rise should be limited in some locations, while 10 per cent saying height should be limited to eight storeys.

This is the height cap the State Government has put on development at Scarborough, and is also the height of the community-endorsed Ocean Beach Hotel proposal.

Twenty-nine per cent said high rise should be limited to 16 storeys in certain locations, the height of Cape Bouvard’s proposed development in Scarborough.
