Straits partly restarts Indonesia operation

One week after being ordered to halt its gold mining activities in Indonesia, Straits Resources has restarted part of its Mt Muro mine as talks continue over a disputed boundary lines.

Managing director Andrew Labuschagne said discussions with stakeholders over the last few days had been productive with “significant progress made”.

The miner last week halted mining activities at the gold mine in central Kalimantan following an order from local authorities.

“The remaining issue relates to the placement of a boundary line between an area of local cultural significance and the eastern end of the Serujan Pit,” Mr Labuscagne said.

“Mining has recommenced in the western end of the pit however mining in the eastern end of the pit is still suspended while discussions continue with all stakeholders for a solution.

“We are confident that with current support from all stakeholders, mining in the eastern pit with recommence shortly.”

Shares in Straits closed up 0.2c to 8.2c today.
