Sticky wicket

We watched man walk on the moon, the iron curtain lower, missiles rain on Iran and Balkan refugees flee. All in our loungerooms.

Yet, despite modern technology and the willingness of sponsors, we couldn’t watch the live action of the defence of the Frank Worrell trophy, among the liveliest sporting encounters in modern history. Cricket lovers have good reason to be angry at television networks.

And another thing. For man-made reasons, instant communications doesn’t guarantee live football action.

Man is hindering progress, not new technology.
