State awards $108m in support contracts

The state government has awarded $108 million worth of contracts to provide drug and alcohol support services throughout regional Western Australia, the Mental Health Commission's most significant investment in the area yet.

The commission awarded the largest share of the funding to the WA Country Health Service, which will be handed a $39 million contract to service the West Kimberley, East Kimberley and Midwest regions.

Perth-based HSC Inc was allocated $34 million to deliver services for the Goldfields and Pilbara regions, while Subiaco-based Palmerstone Association was handed a $11.7 million contract to oversee the delivery of services in the Great Southern.

St John of God Social Outbreak was awarded $11.7 million for the South West and Victoria Park-based Holyoake will service the Wheatbelt with a $10.5 million contract.

Each of the contracts are for five years with a two-year option.

The current contracts are due to expire on June 30, with the new contracts to start from July 1.

Each of the successful tenderers will provide non-residential alcohol and drug treatment and support to individuals and their families, as well as prevention activity.
