Stars and all that jazz

THE great thing about jazz is its ability to create a stylish yet relaxed atmosphere.

Combined with a warm evening, jazz creates the perfect backdrop for eating outdoors, creating an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere for outdoor dining.

Many of Perth’s top restaurants are utilising the jazz medium to create new and stylish ways to enjoy their renowned menus.

The success of Mezzonine’s “Jazz on a rooftop” is testimony to how well jazz works with a summer evening – and Jim Stephen, partner of the King Street restaurant, has begun a new season of the successful evenings.

What began with a simple idea for dinner under the stars has turned into a much sought after corporate entertainment evening, with many of Western Australia’s top businesses catching on to the elegance and style that can be utilised for that personal touch in client liasing.

The likes of Delloites, Minter Ellison and Craftwest are all using the venue to entertain their clients.

The Mezzonine was the choice of Craftwest’s administrator Linda Dorrington for the after launch sponsors dinner for the new shop Elemental.

British Airways and PricewaterhouseCoopers think the “Jazz on a rooftop” to be such a unique and elegant concept they have booked out the entire rooftop for their corporate functions and have chosen their very own selection of musicians.

These companies have caught on to what the Mezzonine offers - a relaxed, yet classy way to entertain clients.

The starlit atmosphere and the impeccable jazz musicians including the likes of the Freddie Grigson Quartet, The Roger Garrood Trio, and the Roz Pearson Ensemble will turn the evening into a much talked about event.

Aside from the jazz, great food will accommodate the evening with the Mezzo’s chefs providing delectable mains joined with fantastic wine and, of course, followed by dessert.

The skyline, the music, the food and the wine.

It all makes for a great night out and a great way to entertain that corporate client or to unwind with colleagues.

The evenings will run every Thursday and Saturday until the end of April.

Jazz is also on the agenda for the Perth Zoo which is hosting jazz afternoons every Sunday for the month of April.

While it may not have the grace and elegance of the Mezzonine, the surrounds of the Perth Zoo will create the jungle jazz atmosphere for an afternoon with a difference.

Head down to the zoo between 2pm and 5pm and enjoy an afternoon of relaxation and entertainment. Bring some wine, a picnic, or use the barbecues and bask in the sun enjoying the tunes, the food, and, well of course, the animals.

Jazz has been the flavour of summer for Gershwin’s at the Hyatt and will continue through spring.

Every Friday night until June the restaurant is hosting jazz evenings, which combine stylish jazz with a great a la carte menu.

The jazz continues to stream through the Hyatt with the Café hosting Jazz Munch every Sunday between 11.30am and 3.30pm for a buffet brunch.
