CONSTRUCTION giant Multiplex received a request from a potential predator to commence takeover discussions, sending its shares soaring more than 17 per cent. The potential bidder for the company was not disclosed, but analysts speculated that a top five local listed property trust or a private equity player could be eyeing the group. Multiplex said there was no guarantee a proposal would even be made, but added that discussions were likely to occur within the next few weeks.
