Spacecubed wins Tech Park contract

The state government has selected Perth business Spacecubed to run the co-working and event space at Technology Park in Bentley after a $7.5 million upgrade.

Spacecubed has been charged with managing and promoting the facility to Perth’s technology and science communities.

This will include activations on site and business development activities.

Technology Park was developed in the 1980s when the concept of having a cluster of innovative technology companies at one location was fashionable.

The 12-hectare business park has attracted little government support over the past decade, with its tenants generally operating independent of each other.

Many innovative tech companies and startups have chosen instead to work from co-working spaces that Spacecubed (and others) have established in the CBD.

Led by chief executive Brodie McCulloch, Spacecubed operates four major co-working spaces across three locations along St Georges Terrace.

It expanded interstate last year after winning a contract to run a co-working space in western Sydney.

In addition, it was awarded a $5.9 million state government grant last year to expand its networking programs and undertake detailed research on WA’s innovation sector.

Ironically, Spacecubed’s first chair in 2012 was Arnold Stroobach, whose company Zernike previously ran Technology Park.

The current state government has moved to reinvigorate Technology Park, spending $7.5 million to upgrade its central facility.

Known as The Hub, it includes co-working, conference, meeting, and presentation spaces.

Lands Minister John Carey has responsibility for Technology Park after its land and assets were transferred in 2020 to DevelopmentWA.

“The transformation of the Brodie Hall Function Centre into a future-focused, innovative co-working space will further drive collaboration and learning, creating new business communities right here in Perth,” he said today.

“Our government is committed to supporting businesses and driving innovation to unlock and diversify Western Australia’s economy.”
