BUSINESSES intending to enter the South West Small Business Awards should be preparing their applications now, says Leschenault Business Enterprise Centre manager Alison Lannin.
Ms Lannin said the awards had become recognised as a benchmark for small business success by the south west business community.
Entries for the awards close on 13 August.
Ms Lannin said it took time to prepare an entry that did justice to a business and maximised its prospects of winning a share of the prestige and prizes available.
“Make the most of your chances and put the best possible entry together. There are no shortcuts but it is possible to avoid the pitfalls that cause some entrants to fall by the wayside,” she said.
“Read the form carefully, look at the judging criteria and answer all questions fully. Your goal should be a succinct presentation that meets the criteria precisely.
“All information submitted to the judges is strictly confidential so entrants need not worry about the security of the data they provide.”
BEC chairman Stuart Thomp-son said South West award coordinators were extremely pleased with the response to date.
Ms Lannin said the regional awards were in addition to the Small Business Development Corp-oration categories of best business with fewer than five employees, best business with fewer than 20 employees, best business with fewer than 50 employees, best business with fewer than 100 employees and the small business entrepreneur of the year.
The WA Small Business of the Year in 1998 was South West-based Lamac Plumbing and Drainage.
Entry forms are available from any BEC in the South West or by phoning (08) 9791 2666.
