Slater & Gordon acquires Gibson & Gibson

Law firm Slater & Gordon has acquired Perth-based law firm Gibson & Gibson, growing the national firm's Western Australian operations by a third.

Slater & Gordon general manager Siri Siriwardene said the acquisition followed two years' research into the Perth legal market.

"The firm's acquisition of Gibson & Gibson is an important step towards our goal of becoming one of Western Australia's largest and best known legal services providers," Mr Siriwardene said.

"We share similar values and common goals of delivering quality, affordable legal services to everyday people, workers and union clients."

Gibson & Gibson principal Rachel Cosentino said joining forces with Slater & Gordon would give its clients access to a greater range of legal services, and provide staff new opportunities for career development.

"We believe that, with Slater & Gordon, we have found the right firm to continue to make legal services more accessible for everyone," Ms Cosentino said.

"Slater & Gordon is a good cultural fit for us and now our clients can have the backing of Australia's best-known consumer law firm, and one that also has a global reach with offices now in the United Kingdom."

Gibson & Gibson provides services in personal Injury, commercial litigation, property and conveyancing, estate planning, and industrial and employment law.

The existing Gibson & Gibson office on St Georges Terrace will be co-branded with Slater & Gordon until the transition period is finalised and the firm is fully integrated.

The acquisition will bring together 63 staff from Slater & Gordon and 20 staff from Gibson & Gibson and a total of 48 legal professionals.

This places the merged law firm at number 13 of WA law firms and patent attorneys according to the Business News Book of Lists.
