Simpson moves to Patersons

Former Macquarie Bank executive Mark Simpson has moved from Hong Kong to Perth to take up a role as Patersons Securities head of research.

England-born Mr Simpson has spent more than a decade working in Hong Kong for firms such as Schroders and Deustche Bank. More recently he was Macquarie Bank’s head of Hong Kong research and strategy.

Mr Simpson replaces David Johnson who, by coincidence only, left Patersons to take up a research role with Macquarie Bank’s Hong Kong office.

Patersons managing director Michael Manford said Mr Simpson’s decision couldn’t have come at a better time.

“We would have found it hard to recruit someone to that role from Perth,” Mr Manford said.

Mr Simpson bought a holiday home in Dunsborough a few years ago but decided late last year to explore the opportunity of making Perth a permanent home.

“We have three small kids and you can’t see more than 700 metres in Hong Kong because of the pollution,” he said.

Mr Manford said Mr Simpson brought a significant amount of experience to the research department.

“He brings to us his high level market strategy and experience in the Asian market,” he said.
