Property developers Georgiou Group, Match Group and Australand are among the shortlist the state government has today revealed to transform the disused Knutsford industrial site near Fremantle into a residential precinct.

Lands Minister Brendon Grylls today announced three preferred development partners that will ultimately create about 450 dwellings across 11 hectares at Knutsford.

The shortlisted candidates are the Knutsford Consortium - comprised of Georgiou, Fini Group and Mainpart Holdings - Match Group and Australand.

Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said those short-listed were selected from a very competitive field of some of the nation's foremost designers, in partnership with some of Australia's premier developers.

He said the project would feature a mix of densities, housing types and styles to enhance the already distinct character of the surrounding residential area.

"We're looking at making this site an integral part of the Fremantle community," Mr Grylls said.

"Potential partners sharing our vision of creating something that is truly exceptional and innovative in design were identified and will make a genuine contribution to the long-term attractiveness and amenity of the community.

"The State Government is looking at the Knutsford urban renewal project to showcase innovation and best practise in the land development industry. The short-listed proponents all shared this philosophy."

A decision on the preferred development partner is anticipated by July, with the development of the first stage to start later in the year.
