THE City of Swan Council approved a new development at the Stafford Court Shopping Centre at Lot 200 Stafford Street, Midland, at the last council meeting.

The council supported a proposal by Dalton Properties, on behalf of the property owners, Westraint No 16 Pty Ltd, to demolish the building, subdivide the land and build offices on half of the site.

The land is zoned as “City Centre Business and Local Reserve for Public Parking” under the city’s town planning scheme.

Centrelink is expected to move into the 1,550 square metre office when it is completed.

Swan CEO Eric Lumsden said the proposal represented a strong town centre land use, which should be encouraged.

“Hopefully, council’s decision will be the impetus for larger works to start in the Midland Town Centre resulting in more people coming into the area,” he said.

“It supports the city’s push to have professional services and office use as the focus of that area.”
