Private equity firm Resource Capital Funds has hired Anna Shave to co-lead an innovation fund focused on mining companies and the energy transition.

Ms Shave will serve as RCF’s private equity innovation investment team managing director and as a director for investor relations in the Asia Pacific region.

The new role will be in addition to Ms Shave’s existing positions as a non-executive director at the Foundation for the WA Museum, INX Software, and Australian Investment Council.

Ms Shave said she looked forward to working on RCF’s innovation initiatives.

“Mining and the resources industry more broadly is an inherently cyclical industry which creates opportunities for investors to strategically position capital to earn through-the-cycle returns,” she said.

“It is an obvious, but once-in-a-generation opportunity to capitalise on many of the emerging technological advancements which will support some of the world’s largest industrial and mining groups to meet their decarbonisation commitments.

“Shareholders and capital providers alike continue to demand more efficiencies and value returns; technology is a key pillar to support this.”

Ms Shave’s move to RCF follows senior roles at Australasian fund manager Tanarra Capital and Fortescue, and as an investment banker in New York.

RCF Australian managing director Brett Beatty said the firm was seeking global talent to drive its investment teams.

“Our broad experience allows us to comfortably invest across the mining development lifecycle, from exploration to operating assets, as well as the capital structure,” he said.

RCF has raised $5 billion over 25 years to invest into mining companies and currently has about $2.5 billion of assets under management.

The firm holds a portfolio of more than 220 company investments across more than 50 countries.

Global Advanced Metals, Australian Vanadium and Ausenco are among the companies which have benefited from the fund.
