Sentinel Real Estate Corporation chairman John Harrison Streicker has passed away on March 10 in his New York home following an illness.

Mr Streicker joined Sentinel as chief investment officer in 1976, before acquiring the company and becoming president in 1988.

He helped the firm grow from $2.2 billion assets under management to the $12.5 billion it manages today.

Sentinel brought the build-to-rent model to Western Australia, with the development of Subiaco build-to-rent apartment project Element 27.

The development, which completed its first stage in 2019, was the nation's first build-to-rent project.

"While we are deeply saddened by his passing, we can all take great lessons from the passion, devotion and generosity with which he lived," the company said in a statment.

"The mark of a true leader is the impact you leave on those whose lives you touch and John’s influence will be felt across the world."

John Streicker was chairman of the company up until his death.

His son Michael Streicker will continue at the company as president.

The Streicker family also owns Clairault Streicker winery in Margaret River.
