Housing and Works Minister Troy Buswell has appointed Grahame Searle as Director General of the Department of Housing and Works.

Mr Searle was previously chief executive of Landgate, a commercial statutory authority created in 2007 from the former Department of Land Administration.

The Department of Housing and Works is the State's largest landlord, managing some 40,000 social housing properties mainly for low income tenants, and also for Government employees in regional areas.

The department also manages many of the larger infrastructure projects in Western Australia, including the Perth Arena and Fiona Stanley Hospital, as well as the construction of schools, hospitals, police stations and other Government buildings.

The agency has a total of 1,300 staff in Perth and branch offices in 17 regional centres.
