Search for WA’s engineering best

WESTERN Australia owes a great deal to the engineering profession and its involvement in the growth of our great State. From the water pipeline to our dry heart, the massive resources projects that fuel our economy and the towers that grace our city skyline there is very little that happens here untouched by engineers.

In recognition of the part engineering plays here WA Business News and Engineers Australia have teamed up to seek the Engineering Elite – a project that seeks to find the best in the profession in the State.

Practising qualified engineers are invited to go to the home page of www.wabusinessnews.com.au to download a form that can be returned via fax or email detailing nominations for the best individual in 14 categories – including Engineering Project Manager for projects worth more than $10 million, Engineering Project Manager for projects under $10 million, Engineer CEO, Innovative Engineer and Implementer of New Technology. There are also categories including defence, exporting, safety, youth, mentoring, women, drafting, research and education.

Engineers Australia director WA division Richard Usher said his institution had decided to get involved because of the opportunity to highlight engineers achieving things in today’s society.

“What attracted Engineers Australia to this concept was the ability to recognise people who are in the prime of their careers,” he said.

“Far too often people win awards in the twilight of their working life for long and meritorious service. As well as celebrating the people who make up our industry, the immediacy of the Engineering Elite is the core reason why engineers must get involved with this project.”

Nominations for the Engineering Elite close on July 16 and the winners will be published in a special liftout on August 28.
