Southern Cross Electrical Engineering Group has appointed a new chairman as it lines up $50 million worth of contracts from companies such as BHP, Multiplex and Teck Global.

ASX-listed SCEE told the market on Tuesday its chairman Derek Parkin will retire from the position at the end of the month but will continue as an independent non-executive director.

He will also retain his positions as chairman of the audit and risk management committee and member of the nomination and remuneration committee.

SCEE has appointed Karl Paganin as his successor.

Mr Parkin said it had been a privilege to serve as chairman for the past eight years.

“I would like to acknowledge and thank my fellow directors for their consistent and collaborative engagement in that time and I firmly believe the board has the right blend of skills and experience to guide the company forward,” he said in a statement.

His successor Mr Paganin has been an independent non-executive director of SCEE since 2015.

Meanwhile, SCEE and its subsidiaries secured $50 million worth of contracts for work in Western Australia, New South Wales, and New Zealand.

WA-based Multiplex Constructions awarded SCEE’s subsidiary Heyday an electrical design and construct works package for work on an NSW data centre.

It marks the third “significant” project award to Heyday for work at the data centre.

BHP Iron Ore contracted SCCE Electrical for work on a switchboard replacement project in the Pilbara.

The scope of work includes replacing and upgrading substations, switchboards, equipment, and cabling by January 2026.

SCEE received an order from Malaga-headquartered Teck Global to supply a range of low voltage switchboards to form part of the battery energy storage project in Kwinana.

NSW-located Richard Crookes Constructions also contracted Heyday for electrical services design and construction work for a redevelopment project.

SCEE’s Trivantage Manufacturing division was engaged by German multinational technology conglomerate Siemens to supply power distribution equipment for the expansion of its data centre in Auckland, New Zealand.

SCEE Group managing director Graeme Dunn said the awards demonstrated the geographic diversity and sectoral range the group had across the national economy.

“Data centres are a strong area for us and this announcement shows that multiple touch points that our businesses have in that segment with project wins for both Heyday and Trivantage,” he said.

SCEE’s shares were trading up slightly by 0.621 per cent to 81 cents at market close.
