Rural Water Users Summit

The Western Australian Farmers Federation in conjunction with the Combined Shires Association, WA Fruit Growers Association and the PGA is holding the Western Australian Rural Water Users Summit, on December 10 at the Community Centre, Warren Road, Nannup.

The Rural Water Users Summit has been organised in order to provide all people with an interest in rural water use especially irrigators, to contribute to a united industry response to the Western Australian State governments draft State Water Strategy.

The keynote speaker for the summit is Deputy Prime Minister and National Party Leader, the Honourable John Anderson, who will speak on the importance of the recognition of property rights and water resource security as well as the need for the Council of Australian Governments to agree to refresh its 1994 water reform agenda.

Other speakers on the day include Australian Bankers Association, representative, Stephen Carrol, who will outline the need for water resource security from a financiers point of view, as well as representatives of several local governments and industries, who will provide their insights into the future needs for rural water users.
