I WRITE in relation to your recent article (Rottnest wind power plan stalled, WA Business News February 5) on the Rottnest Island Wind Energy Project.

You correctly reported that the Rottnest Island Authority had recently called for public tenders for the design, supply and construction of a wind turbine on the Island. However, contrary to your report, a contract was not awarded.

The authority remains committed to renewable energy on the island and supports the work completed to date on the erection of the wind turbine at Mt Herschel.

The Rottnest Island Taskforce, recently established by the State Government, will be considering the Wind Energy Project as part of its overall consideration of infrastructure needs.

While the delay in moving forward is regrettable, it is not the end of this important project on the Island.
