Industry veteran Ron Manners has become the latest Western Australian mining identity inducted into the Mining Hall of Fame at the weekend.

Mr Manners was nominated by Gina Rinehart, David Reed, Mark Creasy and Ross Louthean.

Mr Manners was honoured principally for this work as chairman of Croesus Mining, which produced 1.275 million ounces of gold and paid 11 dividends to shareholders during his tenure.

“It is a great honour to be included in such a prestigious group of people who have contributed so much to the Australian mining industry,” Mr Manners said.

“Sadly, I am the only living member of this year’s inductees and one way of preserving the legacy left by these leaders is though recognition by the Mining Hall.”

Mr Manners was a key player in establishing the hall of fame ten years ago, and said the industry needed to do more to promote its socio-economic benefits to the broader public.

“This enormous task is being carried on the backs of too few,” he said. “This is one of the key roles for the Mining Hall.

“If you don’t tell your story – no one does it for you.”

Other inductees at the weekend included Paul Casserley, Max Radmanovich, Maureen Muggeridge, Edgar Elvey, Ken Shirley and George Willis.
