HEIGHT limits for the Riverside development have been increased to a maximum of 30 storeys, with areas surrounding the WACA Ground and Gloucester Park likely to be turned into commercial and residential developments, according to the new masterplan released by Planning Minister John Day. Areas allowed to a maximum of 30 storeys include the Adelaide Terrace site adjacent to the Western Australia Police Station, currently under redevelopment, as well as a site on the corner of Waterloo Crescent and Plain Street. A third site, located next to the Causeway in an area known as the Waterbank Precinct on Trinity Reserve, is also allowed a maximum of 30 storeys. The Waterbank Precinct will be the main entertainment hub of the eastern end of the city and will incorporate residential and commercial development. The WACA Ground and stands will be retained, with an opportunity for commercial and residential development to a maximum of 10 storeys. The Western Australian Trotting Association has also confirmed its intention to retain trotting operations on the Gloucester Park site, and is investigating potential commercial and residential development on the surrounding land.
