Recruiter’s new home

AFTER being a tenant in 26 St Georges Terrace for the past 16 years, global recruiting and human resources consulting firm TMP/Hudson Global Resources is moving up the Terrace to be closer to its clients and position itself more squarely in the human resources consulting field.

The firm is moving to 111 St Georges Terrace, where it is taking nearly 1,000 square metres and is planning a $1.5 million fitout.

General manager for WA Barry Knight said the firm was required to move if it was to meet the consulting needs of modern business.

“We think it is a good time to move,” he said.

“Our current premises do not reflect a modern recruiting and human resources firm going forward.

“This move shows our clients clearly that we are confident in WA and growing WA business.”

Mr Knight said the bulk of the $1.5 million fit out cost was due to the confidential nature of the business and the need to make interviewing rooms completely soundproof, which required running walls from slab to slab.

“Perth is a small place,” he said.

“We don’t want people interviewing in one room and somebody hearing in another.”

With growing trend in the business world to bring recruitment in-house and decrease recruitment suppliers, Mr Knight said part of the TMP/Hudson Global Resources business plan was to further develop its human resources consulting arm to give it a more strategic place in the market.

“Recruitment is just one part of the chain,” he said.

The firm conducts everything from career management, to job analysis, psychological analysis and exit interviews.

Mr Knight said the firm worked with companies that were down-sizing and coordinated outplacement for employees. He said with companies reducing the number of recruiting suppliers, recruitment firms had to either grow quickly or become more specialised.

“Medium-sized generalist recruiters are finding it tough,” Mr Knight said.

Also with the resource becoming more buoyant, he said blue collar and resource sector employees were in great demand.

TMP/ Hudson Global Resources plans to be in its new premises by December 8.
