I READ your recent ‘Business & the Environment’ feature (WA Business News, May 10) and in particular the article ‘No neutral stance on emissions’ and support you for bringing this important issue to the attention of businesses in Western Australia. Sadly, however, I noticed that our company was not on your list as one of the carbon neutral companies. Home Building Society is proud to be a WA-based carbon neutral company. Our GreenChoice Initiative was launched by Home’s subsidiary company, StateWest Financial Services, in 2005, and we have since commissioned Greenfleet to plant more than 22,000 native trees in WA. Our corporate vehicle fleet, including our iconic Home Mini, is registered with Greenfleet, with native trees planted each year to negate the carbon dioxide emissions created by our cars. We also commission native trees to be planted in WA to help absorb the emissions created by our general operations, including our branch and head office locations. We are committed to raising the public awareness of environmental and sustainable practices in the workplace and the importance of providing environmentally friendly products and services. The GreenChoice Initiative was developed as our blueprint for an improved environment that aims at promoting carbon neutral living within our community. It offers customers who take out construction home loans or car loans the opportunity to support the environment. By Greg Wall - managing director, Home Building Society
