IN the article ‘Jobseekers hold all the aces’ (WA Business News, May 24, page 11), Ms Cooper of the Australian Human Resource Institute says that, in a tight labour market, recruiters’ ‘ethics go out the window’. This is simply wrong. In fact, a competitive market makes customer service standards all the more essential if recruiters are to deliver results for both client and candidate. It is important to point out that all members of the Recruitment & Consulting Services Association are bound by a rigorous code for professional practice, and any complaints are taken seriously and dealt with transparently by an ethics registrar and ethics committee. If necessary, penalties can be imposed on those who breach the code, and the RCSA actively takes a stand on these issues. Employers and candidates who want to ensure they are dealing with a professional, accountable and ethical recruitment agency should ensure they always deal with an RCSA member. Skilled recruitment professionals are a crucial link in the chain if WA is going to continue finding in-demand skilled workers. By: Gary Carpenter - WA region president, RSCA.
