Railway goes to LandCorp

Tuesday, 20 May, 2003 - 22:00

LANDCORP will manage the acquisition of properties in an area bounded by Wellington, William and Murray Streets, which will be developed for a new underground rail station.

A compulsory acquisition process has been commenced, property owners will receive “Notices of Intention to Take” this week and property owners and tenants are required to vacate subject premises by March 1, 2004.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said that while the land was needed for construction of the underground platform the project also provided an opportunity to redevelop a run-down part of the city.

“LandCorp has held meetings with the property owners and tenants to discuss the acquisition process,” she said.

Ms MacTiernan said the resumption would not affect compensation due to tenants.
