Quickflix buoyant on Dick Smith deal

Perth-based online movie company Quickflix has inked a marketing partnership with retailer Dick Smith Electronics.

Dick Smith customers who make purchases of $100 or more will receive a Quickflix gift card entitling them to an introductory streaming subscription and online DVD rental valued at $47.50.

The partnership will be supported by media advertising and catalogue and in-store promotion.

Quickflix services will also be promoted through Dick Smith's "Clever Dick" technical support service.

The deal marks the latest example of Quickflix teaming up with established retailers and electronic companies to promote its online movie and television streaming service.

It launched a streaming service with South Korean electronic giant LG in December last year, enabling Australian customers to stream Quickflix's online movies and TV shows through LG-branded smart televisions and Blu-ray players.

The company also signed deals with Amazon's new Kindle Fire tablet, Sony's PlayStation 4 game console and Hybrid Television Services' TiVo digital recorder in 2013.

Quickflix chief executive Stephen Langsford said retailers were increasingly turning to entertainment services such as Quickflix to engage and reward customers.

"Dick Smith is the perfect partner brand for Quickflix; we provide the leading-edge entertainment, and Dick Smith provides the consumer devices including smart TVs, game consoles, computers, mobile and tablets to enjoy it on," he said.

Quickflix shares jumped 28.5 per cent higher to 0.9 cents at 10:16am WST.
