QPSX takes on Oracle

A DAVID and Goliath battle is brewing with local intellectual property commercialiser QPSX opting to go toe-to-toe with US computer giant Oracle on its home turf.

Oracle has been named as the defendant in a US lawsuit filed by Financial Systems Technology, a company QPSX has collaborated with on the case.

QPSX CEO Graham Griffiths refused to disclose how much it had cost QPSX to get the litigation to the lawsuit filing stage.

The case alleges that Oracle infringed two enterprise data management patents.

Mr Griffiths said QPSX would be facing no further costs from the action but would be sharing in any proceeds, the percentages of which are commercial in confidence.

"In our view, the two EDM patents apply to certain significant features of the Oracle database system," he said.

"Litigation sometimes is an important vehicle for protecting intellectual property which is unlawfully used by companies in the US and Europe particularly."
