St John of God Health Care has announced Bryan Pyne as the healthcare provider’s permanent chief executive.

Mr Pyne has worked at St John of God Health Care for more than two decades and stepped up as acting chief executive in December 2022 following Shane Kelly’s resignation.

During his time at the healthcare provider, Mr Pyne has worked in senior executive positions both within the hospitals and at the corporate head office, including as chief operating officer and group finance director.

St John of God Health Care board chair Kerry Sanderson said Mr Pyne was deeply committed to the ethos of the healthcare provider.

“He has deep knowledge of the health care sector, a strong focus on people and culture, excellent commercial acumen and extensive experience in financial management,” she said.

“He has held multiple roles across the organisation and has the right mix of experience and skills.

“During the period he has acted in the position, he has proven that he has capabilities needed to lead St John of God Health Care at the current time.”

Mr Pyne said he was eager to lead the team at St John of God Health Care and focus on recovering from the rippling impacts of the pandemic.

“My focus will be on continuing to build a strong culture of collegiality and employee wellbeing so our people can continue to deliver the best and safest healthcare to our patients with a focus on clinical excellence and ensuring the best possible patient experience,” he said.

“In addition, we need to focus on emerging as a strong organisation from the impacts of COVID and build on our outstanding foundations and heritage.”
