PERTH businessman Peter Clements has embarked on a project that could, if adopted by the hospitality industry, revolutionise the way beer is sold and marketed to consumers across the world. Mr Clements has designed a jug that he promises will keep beer cold until the last drop, and has been designed to move jug-drinking out of the beer barns and into hip and stylish bars. Negotiating the new industrial landscape
A SIGNIFICANT portion of the WA Government’s new industrial relations laws come into effect today (Thursday August 1), including the controversial union right of entry provisions. Besides the right of entry provisions, changes to unfair dismissal laws, minimum conditions of employment and changes that allow the WA Industrial Relations Commission to make enterprise orders become active. Rail line hopes sinking
THE City of Perth Council is mounting an action committee to agitate for the new Perth to Mandurah rail line to be run underground between the city and Northbridge. Councillors called a meeting last week to discuss the sinking of the rail line in the city with a number of key stakeholders, including property professionals, retired UWA Professor Martyn Webb, and Western Australian Government Railways acting commissioner of railways Reece Waldock.

WALK into the 11th floor office of St Andrews Insurance in Parmelia House in Perth and the first thing that will strike you is that the insurance business is either shedding staff or running on extreme optimism. In the case of St Andrews it turns out to be the latter. St Andrews Insurance managing director John Van Der Wielen said the firm was pinning its hopes on winning St George Bank’s insurance business Australia-wide. Full report, Page 13.

BUSINESS managers and accountants will enjoy substantial savings in fleet management costs if an industry submission to the Federal Government is endorsed. The Australasian Fleet Managers Association has called on the Government to increase incentives for businesses to buy new vehicles. Full report, Financial Management, Page 30.

THE Federal Government has started cranking up its campaign to give workers the right to select their own superannuation fund. Choice of superannuation fund will be the biggest change to the superannuation system since the introduction of compulsory super in the 1980s, according to Assistant Treasurer Helen Coonan.
