Prattley to chair WA Planning Commission

The state government has appointed Gary Prattley as the new chair of the Western Australian Planning Commission.

The announcement is below:

Planning Minister John Day today announced the appointment of Gary Prattley as the new chair of the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC).

Mr Prattley has 41 years experience in planning, urban management and governance at local, metropolitan, regional, State and national government levels.

Mr Prattley also has private sector planning experience and headed government planning systems in Western Australia, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

For four years, from 1997 to 2001, Mr Prattley was the chief executive officer of the Ministry for Planning in WA, predecessor of the Department for Planning and Infrastructure.

"Mr Prattley has four decades of both private and government experience and so he is used to seeing the many sides of land planning and development," Mr Day said.

"Working with the many industry and interest groups that are part of land-use planning, Mr Prattley and the Director General of Planning, Eric Lumsden, will deliver reform and leadership for Western Australia's planning activities."

Mr Prattley has a Masters in Town Planning; is a Certified Practicing Planner; Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia and the Australian Property Institute; and a member of the Urban Development Institute of Australia.

The WAPC is the peak body and decision-making authority for land use planning and development in WA, plays a major co-ordinating role across all aspects of the State's land-use planning process and in providing advice to the Government.
