Police investigate Nedlands aged care home

WA Police is investigating five incidents at Regis Aged Care’s Nedlands facility.

WA Police confirmed to Business News that detectives were investigating five incidents that occurred from January 11 to January 13 at an aged care facility in Perth.

Regis posted a statement to its website yesterday confirming it had received allegations of several incidents at its Nedlands facility, which failed to meet its care standards.

“Although the allegations aren’t yet substantiated, we take them very seriously and apologise for any distress caused,” the statement said.

It said senior management had commenced an investigation into the allegations.

“While we complete the investigation, we have put several immediate measures in place to ensure residents are safe and care is delivered appropriately,” Regis said.

“We reported the allegations to the required regulatory bodies within 24 hours and will transparently support any investigation that they may also complete.

“We are working diligently and quickly through the investigation phase and will take all necessary action to ensure resident care is delivered to the highest possible standards.

“The management and team members at Regis Nedlands are deeply saddened that any resident may have received anything less than the professional, compassionate care we seek to deliver to every resident, every day.”

WA Police said detectives were in the process of contacting the families of any victims.

The allegations come a month before the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety’s final report is released on February 26.

The Department of Health imposed sanctions on Regis Aged Care's Tiwi facility in Darwin in 2017, after it failed to meet skin care and human resources management standards. 

Shares in Regis Aged Care fell from $1.80 each to $1.70 yesterday and closed at $1.75 today.
