Engineering services provider Plexal Group has been acquired by global firm SPIE Oil and Gas Services.

Perth-based Plexal said the tie-up comes after more than six years working with SPIE in the south-east Asian oil and gas sector.

SPIE Oil and Gas has branches throughout Europe, Africa, the Asia Pacific and the Middle East, and employs around 4,000 workers.

“Plexal and SPIE have worked hard to grow their business in the Australian market and this decision will mean that Plexal Group’s local name and workforce will remain,” Plexal chief executive Dean Paton said.

“SPIE Oil and Gas Services is a strong firm that will support operations and maintenance, commissioning and technical services on projects and complement Plexal Group’s sound background in brownfield engineering expertise.”

Commercial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
