Indigenous group Pindari has won a multi-million dollar contract to provide cleaning, grounds maintenance and associated services at nine of Rio Tinto’s mine sites in the Pilbara.

Pindari hailed the contract win as its first long-term job with Rio, having previously secured contracts for labour, electrical and minor building works for the mining giant.

The exact value of the new contract, valid for five years with options to extend, was not disclosed.

“Pindari has provided services to Rio Tinto since 2008, starting out with a handful of tradespeople in infrastructure maintenance to winning multiple accommodation refurbishment contracts, landscaping and building projects,” Pindari executive director Natalie Venosi said.

Managing director David Pidek said the contract would create 80 full-time jobs for the business, with at least 30 per cent to be filled by indigenous workers.

“This is proof of our commitment to robust systems and processes, rigorous policies and procedures, ongoing monitoring, management and achievement of quality outcomes in relation to staff development, business practices, safety and professional standards,” he said.
