Perth-based copper junior Altona Mining has been named Queensland’s Explorer of the Year.

Altona managing director Alistair Cowden accepted the award at the Mining 2012 Resources Convention in Brisbane yesterday.

“We are delighted to accept this award in recognition of our skilful team’s hard work at the Roseby copper project, which is one of Australia’s most strategically placed copper resoruces,” Mr Cowden said.

“The company has transformed Roseby over the past two and a half years by almost doubling mineral resources, discovering a new deposit at Turkey Creek, completing a definitive feasibility study on our Little Eva deposit, achieving environmental permitting and the initial grant of mining licences.

“We are now in a strong position to enter into the next development phase and look forward to taking the project into production in the near future.”

At close of trade today Altona stocks were steady at 27 cents, having been lightly traded.
