Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre liquor dispute

Tuesday, 20 January, 2004 - 21:00

THE Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre is due to be completed in May 2004 and will begin operating in August.

On December 10 the Director of Liquor Licensing heard the contested application for a special facility licence for the PCEC.

Liquorland and the executive director of Public Health both participated in the matter, opposing several aspects of the proposed trading conditions for the licence.

The issues raised by the opposing parties focused on the hours of trading, the take away liquor to be sold, off-site catering and unaccompanied juveniles on the licensed premises.

A site inspection was carried out during the hearing and written support from various organisations in the tourism industry was presented.

After hearing the evidence, cross examination of the applicant’s spokesperson and some submissions from all counsel, the director determined the application should be granted.

However, the precise wording aspects of the trading conditions are yet to be determined.
