Pastoral industry recommendations released

Tuesday, 11 November, 2003 - 21:00

RECOMMENDATIONS designed to guide the future development of Western Australia’s pastoral industry have been released for public comment.

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the recommendations were the work contained in the reports of five working groups formed last year to address the many land use issues challenging the pastoral industry in WA.

She said the recommendations had not been endorsed by Government and would be debated at the second Gascoyne Muster to be held in Carnarvon next month.

The five working groups were formed around issues of:

Pastoralism for sustainability;

Access to pastoral land;

Aboriginal access and living areas;

Pastoral industry economic monitoring requirements; and

Alternative models for land tenure.

The working groups’ reports are available from www.dpi.wa.gov.au or can be obtained in CD format by contacting the Department of Planning and Infrastructure on 9347 5126.

The reports will be open for comment until November 14.
