Kewdale-based PWR has acquired South West Fire Unit Fabrications in Collie in a deal that is understood to be valued at more than $4 million.
PWR, also known as Paull & Warner Resources, specialises in risk and emergency management including manufacturing ambulances and response vehicles.
The company is based in Kewdale with branches in Bunbury, Newman, Karratha, Tom Price, Onslow, Geraldton, and Kalgoorlie.
South West Fire is a family-owned business that manufactures and services fire appliances for public and private sectors, including the mining industry and government departments.
PWR managing director Simon Paull said the acquisition was an expansion of both companies’ manufacturing capabilities.
“In recent years South West Fire have also completed a range of general fabrication projects so we will utilise the teams expertise in producing 12 Emergency Response Training facilities for Rio Tinto in coming weeks,” he said.
“This type of support, and so quickly after the acquisition, really is credit to the South West Fire team’s reputation and also demonstrates Rio Tinto’s dedication to supporting regional communities.”
He said the merger would expand PWR’s service offering into emergency vehicle repairs and servicing in Collie and at major incidents throughout Western Australia.
It is understood South West Fire director Colin Giles will retire in the coming months, with Mr Paull taking over the merged business.
Mr Paull told Business News the primary motivation for the acquisition was to expand PWR’s manufacturing team.
“South West Fire are renowned as some of the best emergency vehicle fabricators and service technicians in the country, so all employees will be retained,” he said.
“We are also keen to expand the team and are currently advertising for various positions, ideally locally.
“The South West Fire management team will remain unchanged. The South West Fire brand will also remain unchanged as testament to Colin’s exceptional work and dedication in building what is a truly inspirational company.”
