PPB limits Rick Hart customer credit

The receiver manager of collapsed electrical goods retailer Clive Peeters, which own WA chain Rick Hart, has reportedly decided that customers will need to spend four times the value of gift vouchers if they want to redeem their vouchers.

Earlier today, PPB issued a statement that all lay bys and gift vouchers would be honoured.

However this afternoon WA's Consumer Protection department said it now appears the Rick Hart receiver/manager will only honour gift vouchers if the consumer spends four times the amount in the store.

For example, a customer with a $100 gift voucher will have to spend $400 in the store to redeem the voucher.

The receivers claim they are under no legal obligation to honour gift vouchers and this is a gesture of goodwill, the department said.

Rick Hart's customers are reportedly owed more than $1 million worth of goods.

WA's Consumer Protection department is continuing to clarify the parameters of the offer to customers and will be seeking legal advice on this matter.
