Karratha-based mining services provider PLI has been awarded a $21 million contract from Rio Tinto for work across 22 mine sites in the Pilbara.

The three-year contract is expected to create 40 full-time Pilbara-based jobs and 25 FIFO positions.

Rio Tinto ports rail and infrastructure managing director Richard Cohen said they were excited to build their relationship with PLI.

Formerly known as Powerlift Industries, the family-owned mining services business specialises in construction, maintenance, plant and equipment hire, cranes and rigging, and corrosion control.

Established by husband-and-wife Jack and Kat Heales, PLI has employed more than 800 staff since 2009.

The company began as a crane and rigging services business, and has expanded its capabilities to include construction, maintenance, plant and equipment and corrosion control.

PLI built and founded Pilbara’s first brewery, North West Brewing Company.
