Overwork unhealthy

EMPLOYEES who have high work demands placed on them – but little say – are at risk of injury or ill health, says The OH&S Services Network head Barbara McPhee.

Ms McPhee said workers were at risk of injury when they had little input into how and when they completed their work.

Ms McPhee said employee goodwill was not automatic – employers had to earn it.

“After gaining employee respect, managers can ask for and expect superior effort when it is really needed,” she said.

“But they must also recognise that everybody has ‘off’ days and employees need to be able to ease off occasionally.”
