Opinion split on dismissal

OPINIONS are divided over the benefits of exempting small businesses from Federal unfair dismissal laws.

A survey by employment agency Recruitment Solutions found that 67 per cent of respondents were concerned that if the proposed small business exemptions were passed by the Federal Government, it would create a two-tiered system.

This means one rule for small business and another for large.

Around one in three respondents were also worried that the amendments would result in the best employees migrating to larger organisations that would still be required to adhere to unfair dismissal laws.
