Harries joins Lotterywest

Maria Harries has been appointed to the board of Lotterywest. Dr Harries is currently chairperson of MercyCare, and runs her own evaluation and management consulting business. She also holds the position of Senior Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia where she worked as an academic for more than 20 years. Dr Harries has an interest in a diversity of areas, including mental health, child and family welfare, ethics, research, management and governance. She was previously councillor with the City of Subiaco.

Curthoys District Court judge

Barrister Jeremy Curthoys has been appointed as a judge of the District Court of Western Australia. Mr Curthoys has practised as a barrister for 25 years, appearing in civil litigation in the Supreme, District and Federal courts, and was most recently the chairman of the board of directors of John Toohey Chambers. He has previously served on the courts committee and the courts delay reduction committee of the Law Society of WA, and has taught litigation and advocacy skills throughout the past 30 years. Mr Curthoys replaces Judge Mary Ann Yeats, who will be retiring in August.

Sultan recruits Ralston

Base metals explorer and emerging zinc producer Sultan Corporation has appointed Mike Ralston as managing director. Mr Ralston, who currently serves as a non-executive director, will move to the full-time executive position at Sultan on August 1. He was previously chief financial officer at Kangaroo Resources. Current managing director Derek Lenartowicz will move to the position of executive chairman, where he will focus primarily on bringing new projects into the company and developing them. Sultan is currently building the foundations to put in place an aggressive growth strategy.
