Murdoch recruits Higgott as VC

Political economist Richard Higgott has been appointed as vice-chancellor and president of Murdoch University, starting in August. Professor Higgott is currently a Winthrop Professor at the University of WA while on leave from his role as pro vice-chancellor for research at the UK’s University of Warwick. He replaces Gary Martin, who has held the role on an interim basis since John Yovich, Murdoch’s previous VC of nine years, retired from academia in March.

Guthrie heads Toro Energy project

Uranium miner Toro Energy has appointed Vanessa Guthrie as executive general manager – Wiluna project. Dr Guthrie was previously chief executive of Wellard Enterprises, and is a former Woodside Energy vice-president for sustainable development and sustainability manager for Alcoa World Alumina Australia. Dr Guthrie will assume responsibility for managing the advanced approvals processes, negotiations and development of the proposed mine.

Field joins MACA

Mining and civil contractor MACA has appointed Karen Field as a non-executive director. Mrs Field is currently also a board member of the Water Corporation, SunGrid, Sipa Resources, Amana Living and the Gravity Discovery Centre. Prior to returning to Australia to assume directorship roles, she was president of Minera Alumbrera in Argentina.
