Straits Resources restructures

Complex restructuring and demerger plans at Straits Resources, to be renamed International Coal Holdings, have led to the resignation of Milan Jerkovic as chief executive and director and his appointment as CEO and director at Straits Metals, which is in the process of changing its name to Straits Resources. Straits Metals plans to sell 100 per cent of its shares in the coal company, now headed by Peter Storey, to Thailand’s largest energy conglomerate PTT Mining, in order to become a pure metals company focused on copper and gold with a portfolio of producing assets and exploration assets.

Freehills’ Crew relocates

Perth’s largest law firm, Freehills, has added another partner to its Perth office – energy and infrastructure expert Jo Crew. Ms Crew has relocated from the firm’s Melbourne office where she was a partner for four years. She has acted for both project sponsors and financiers, and advised on Hallett Hill Wind Farm, CFO magazine’s 2009 project finance deal of the year.

GESB’s Harvey retires

Phil Harvey is retiring from his position as the chairman of GESB, WA’s largest superannuation provider, after eight years in the position. Mr Harvey’s previous roles have included appointments as chief executive officer of Alinta Gas and chairman of Liquified Natural Gas.

Griffin joins Midwinter

Midwinter Resources has appointed Adrian Griffin as managing director. Mr Griffin was previously founder and technical director of South African iron-ore developer Ferrum Crescent, and has held board positions with a number of Australian public companies in the resource sector.
